FODMAP Friendly Easter

Easter is this weekend which means we are surrounded by chocolate.

Even if you are following a low FODMAP diet, you can still enjoy chocolate. According to researchers at Monash University, dark chocolate is low in FODMAPs as long as you don’t consume more than 30 grams. Read the label to find out how many pieces make up a 30 gram serving.dchoc

Even if a product is labeled dark chocolate, you should still check for high FOMAP ingredients including:

  • Dairy
  • Maltitol
  • Mannitol
  • Sorbitol
  • Xylitol
  • Inulin
  • Chicory root
  • Fructooligosaccharides
  • Carob

Choosing the dark chocolate with the lowest fiber content means that it has the least amount of cocoa solids. Cocoa solids are made into cocoa powder which contain FODMAPs. Its important to note that too much fat or sugar may trigger GI symptoms in some people, so sticking small amounts is your best bet.
